What Are Vacuums for Fleas?

A vacuum cleaner for fleas is one that can suck up all theflea eggs, pupae, flea larvae, and adult fleasfrom a wide variety of floor surfaces such as hardwood floors, tile, carpet, and concrete.

It should have a powerful suction that can reach into nooks and crannies where fleas like to lay eggs,up to 500 in a couple of months, along with plenty of hose attachments to reach areas under chairs, beds, and couches. In other words, it has to be the best vacuum cleaner there is.

It should also be able to work effectively on different surfaces such as walls, baseboards, furniture fabric, leather upholstery, drapes, and quilts.

Because fleas are tiny (click to see pictures of fleas) they can escape out of the vacuum canister or bag if the vacuum isn’t much good. This is why a HEPA filter is so important when you’re working to control aflea infestation

HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters remove 99.999% of particles that are 0.3μ (microns) in diameter from the air. For comparison, a human hair is about 40μ in diameter. A HEPA filter will be able to prevent the fleas, their larva, and pupae from escaping from the vacuum cleaner once it sucks them up. It will also pick up dust and other allergens along with the fleas.

How Do Vacuums for Fleas Work?

A good vacuum cleaner for fleas works by using suction power to literally suck the fleas away from their hiding places.

Fleas have a strong grip that can be hard to break. Vacuums bristles on the cleaner head have spin fast and hard to physically knock the fleas loose from whatever they’re hanging on to sothe vacuum can suck them into the canister(if it is a bagless vacuum) or into the bag if it uses vacuum cleaner bags. The vacuum will then hold the fleas inside until you empty the canister or throw away the bag.

You should always empty the canister outside or dispose of the bag outside. Never empty it or throw away the bad inside the house or else you risk fleas escaping and re-infesting!

Once the bag is removed from the vacuum cleaner it is no longer part of the overall HEPA filtration system and the fleas will be able to escape. If your vacuum is a cyclonic vacuum, or a bagless vacuum, as it is known, emptying the canister releases the fleas altogether.

Are Vacuums for Fleas Effective?

Yes, within limits. If vacuum cleaners are used properly, they constitute a dynamic first step in your campaign to control a flea problem in your house or business。They will eliminate carpet fibers and pet hair where fleas are fond of hiding. Vacuuming is an invaluable tool for quickly removing the live adult fleas.

What vacuuming cannotdo is eradicate a flea infestation by itself. No matter how powerful the suction is on your vacuum cleaner, you’ll never get all the fleas. The adult fleas can stay one jump ahead of the vacuum – literally – so you won’t be able to get all of them no matter what.

How To Use A Vacuum for Fleas?

When it’s time to start vacuuming up the fleas in your house or business, start in the room that is farthest from the front door and gradually work your way toward it, leaving a series of clean rooms behind you. Don’t forget the hallways!

  • In each room, use the crevice tool to vacuum along the baseboards. Fleas love to crawl into cracks and crevices so you’ll need to move the tool head slowly along the top of the baseboards by the wall then along the bottom of them next to the floor. Slowly move the vacuum back and forth across the floor in overlapping paths. Take your time and be sure you get every possible inch of the floor. Vacuum around the windows, doors, closet doors, and drawers. Vacuum under all the furniture. Move it around if you have to. Use it on the upholstery and bedding. Basically, vacuum everything in the room from top to bottom. If it takes you less than 10 minutes to vacuum a room, you’re going too fast. Slow down!
  • Keep the power running as you move to the next room. When vacuums are turned off it becomes possible for fleas to get out the same way they came in, so if you have to turn it off and move the plug, do it as quickly as possible. Don’t waste any time.
  • Vacuum the part of the hallway just outside each room as you finish each room. Once you’ve completed the clean up in each room along a particular hallway, go back and vacuum the entire hallway.
  • Make sure you get all the different floors in the house; hardwood, bare floors, tile, vinyl, carpet, rugs, and concrete. There are cracks and crevices, nooks and crannies in all of them that fleas can exploit as hiding places or somewhere to lay eggs. Don’t skip anything.
  • Once you’ve finished vacuuming the whole house, which should take at least an hour to two hours, take the entire vacuum cleaner outside before you open it totake out the bag or empty the dust bin or canister。空的trash as far from your house as possible to prevent the fleas from coming back inside.

Is It Okay To Vacuum For Fleas Around My Pets And Children?

Yes. of course, it is safe. These are regular vacuum cleaners for doing ordinary clean up and maintenance in and around the house. Some are an upright vacuum cleaner while others are cordless handheld vacuum cleaners. Pet owners don’t have to worry about these vacuums doing anything out of the ordinary to their pets because these are not robot vacuums.

Robots don’t empty their bags or canisters as soon as they’re finished vacuuming the house and for getting rid of flea infestations, that is a necessity. Otherwise, the fleas will eventually find a way out once the vacuum is turned off.
